James Massey Inspires Year 10 Business Students at St Thomas More Catholic High School

James Massey recently visited St Thomas More Catholic High School to deliver an engaging workshop to Year 10 GCSE Business students, sharing his experiences as a business leader and offering valuable insight into the realities of running and growing a business.

The session, which took place on 10th July, began with a focus on entrepreneurial skills, giving pupils the opportunity to explore some of the key attributes needed to develop ideas, overcome challenges, and make effective business decisions. However, the workshop quickly became a wider discussion about leadership, resilience, business planning, and the importance of building strong relationships.

A key theme from James’ presentation was the importance of leading with kindness. Drawing on his own experience, James explained how kindness, trust and positive relationships have played an important role in developing successful business relationships and supporting long-term growth.

The school’s Assistant Headteacher commented:

“The initial focus was a look into entrepreneurial skills, but the pupils were treated to much more than this during the 50-minute presentation. Jim was able to explore the virtues of kindness and how this has enabled his business relationships and revenues to flourish over time. Pupils were engaged and Jim had to field a number of high-calibre questions regarding business uncertainty, human resources, business planning and objectives.”

The students showed great enthusiasm throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions on a range of business topics including uncertainty, HR, planning and objectives. Their engagement helped create a lively and meaningful discussion, bringing their classroom learning to life through real-world business experience.

We would like to thank St Thomas More Catholic High School for the invitation and the Year 10 Business students for their excellent participation. Opportunities like this are a valuable way to support careers education, encourage future talent and help young people understand how the skills they are developing in school can be applied in the workplace.
