M&S Automated Warehouse

MBA were appointed by Marks & Spencer to join the fit-out design team to support the M&S BWS (Building Warehouse System) automation strategy. This included the integration of automated systems as well as a full fit-out of the northern office block for staff and operational facilities.

The facility was sub-divided into three chambers and incorporated multi-tier mezzanines installed in various areas which increased the operational footprint of the facility. The project also incorporated complex automated infrastructure such as multi-level conveyors, shuttle systems and a mini-load system.

Our role involved close collaboration with the automation team to integrate the building services and fire protection into the automation design.

The northern office block project was unique as it was the first distribution centre office to accommodate a passive cooling system for the office areas, including night time purging of the spaces.
